BRAVADO ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS
THE POPCORN OF DOOM

2003
TRT: 7:48
Comedy
TMR: 31   Top15: #9 (tie)

A resurrected Random Eyes gauntlet, Alan ended up producing this for school. It's a cute story about a man who begins to dread his girlfriend's obsession with microwave popcorn and making him watch Sleepless in Seattle with her every day. He decides to take matters into his own hands by stealing the tape and attempting to hide it in the bathroom, with disastrous results. The movie is shot in the style of Buster Keaton, with overcranking, a stone-faced leading man, (sorta) acrobatic side gags and all.

     COMMENTARY

...I was hoping that if anyone had picked it, they would drop the dialogue and shoot it silent film style, so that's what I did. I ended up shooting it without a camera operator (another bonus for the style - no camera movement), which proved to be tricky when shooting all the bathroom stuff. But the worst part was the hat-throwing gag. I practiced doing it over and over, nailing it every time. But as soon as the cameras started rolling... well... 40 or so takes later, I got it right....

     CUTTING ROOM FLOOR
  • The original script for this movie was lost. It originally included dialogue, but the movie works better without it and was dropped during the rewrite.
  • Among other smaller changes, in the original version the man intentionally destroys the videotape, instead of accidentally doing it like in the final movie.

  • A relaxing night at home

    Flush...

    A quick bath.
